How can visual storytelling shape our understanding of the world, and what tools are required to translate complex ideas into compelling imagery? Illustration sits at the intersection of communication, fine art, and commercial design, serving as an essential language in modern media, publishing, and activism. This programme is designed for students who are ready to interrogate the future of the discipline while honing the rigorous technical skills necessary to thrive in a professional creative environment.

By starting with a dedicated foundation year, you will immerse yourself in a vibrant, interdisciplinary community within the Creative Industries Institute. This preparatory year is crafted to build your creative confidence, allowing you to experiment with diverse materials—from traditional print and woodwork to cutting-edge digital technologies—before specialising in illustration. You will be encouraged to take creative risks, participate in collaborative projects, and develop the independent research mindset required for degree-level success.

A Professional-Focused Practice

The core of the programme prioritises the 'illustrator of the future'—a practitioner who is technically versatile, commercially aware, and socially conscious. You will engage in:

• Live Industry Projects: Collaborating with real clients, commissioners, and agencies to solve authentic design challenges.
• Professional Networking: Gaining exposure through national design competitions, membership in industry bodies like Creative UK, and participation in the annual 'Future Now' festival.
• Applied Experience: The opportunity to undertake a year-long work placement, ensuring you graduate not just with a portfolio, but with direct experience in the creative sector.
