Master in Animation

Tuition fees are 16,750 GBP per year, while the application deadline for Master in Animation is Aug 31, 2027.

Bringing a static image to life requires more than just technical proficiency; it demands a deep understanding of narrative, physical form, and the playful spark of imagination. The Animation BA (Hons) at De Montfort University is crafted for students who are eager to translate their artistic curiosity into the dynamic language of movement. Rather than focusing solely on software mastery, this programme prioritizes the development of a unique creative voice, encouraging students to explore the intersection of traditional draftsmanship and modern digital practice.

Portfolio-Driven Creative Development

At the heart of the course is a commitment to personal artistic growth. Students are expected to engage heavily with:

• Observational Drawing: Developing the ability to interpret human figures, landscapes, and physical form in 2D.
• Narrative Construction: Crafting storyboards, scripts, and character designs that demonstrate coherent storytelling.
• Experimental Practice: Utilizing both traditional and digital media to test the boundaries of animation production.

The curriculum is designed to push you beyond passive observation, requiring you to maintain sketchbooks that serve as a laboratory for ideas—where rough concepts and playful experimentation are as valued as polished final pieces. Academics look for candidates who can demonstrate a genuine passion for the medium, favoring original work over fan art or derivative pieces, and fostering a studio environment that values quality of thought over sheer volume of output.
