About Bachelor of Arts in Anishinaabemowin

Tuition is CAD 6,750 per year.

Students in the Anishinaabemowin program study the Ojibwe language and culture through hands-on instruction. They develop fluency in speaking, reading, and writing Anishinaabemowin. The curriculum includes grammar, oral storytelling, and written exercises. Students also explore Anishinaabe social structures, values, worldview, and philosophy. They examine regional differences in the language and culture across Canada.

The program is taught in a close-knit campus environment with support from Elders in Residence and cultural workshops. Students engage in cross-cultural awareness sessions and participate in events like the Shingwauk Gathering and the Gathering at the Rapids Pow Wow. The Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre supports research and healing related to Indigenous history. Students work with faculty and community members on projects tied to cultural preservation.

Graduates pursue careers as educators, linguists, civil servants, and policy makers. The federal government hires 5,000 new bilingual employees each year. Bilingual workers earn 15 to 21 percent more than unilingual staff. The program prepares students to revitalize and sustain the Anishinaabe language for future generations.
