Master in Applied Data Science (MSc)

Applied Data Science at the University of Göttingen is a 4-semester, research-oriented Master's programme that trains students to extract knowledge from data by combining mathematics, statistics, computer science, and domain expertise. A central feature of the programme is its emphasis on interdisciplinary application: students choose one application domain — options currently include Computational Neuroscience, Bioinformatics, Medical Data Science, Digital Humanities, Computational Sustainability, and Digital Business Administration, with further domains under development. This pairing of core methods with deep domain knowledge is the programme's organising principle. The curriculum is designed to enable students to carry out scientific research projects independently, communicate results effectively, and think critically about the ethical implications of collecting and analysing large datasets, including the consequences of automated data-driven decision-making. Alongside research training, the programme offers opportunities for internships and engagement with industry partners. It admits students in both winter and summer semesters. Graduates are equipped for data science roles in research institutions, industry, and sectors spanning neuroscience, medicine, humanities, and business — wherever large-scale, principled data analysis is applied.
