The MSc in Mathematical Data Science at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg provides training in the mathematical foundations underpinning data science algorithms. Core courses cover non-convex optimisation, numerical simulation, numerical linear algebra, stochastic processes, high-dimensional statistics, graph theory, neural networks, distributed computing, cryptography, and information retrieval. The core curriculum is accompanied by courses from application fields including AI, computational neuroscience, control engineering, cybersecurity, and bioinformatics. The programme runs over 4 semesters. It is structured around mathematical compulsory modules, mandatory elective modules drawn from three complexes covering advanced mathematical methods in data science, fundamentals of data science, and data science applications, along with a general studies module. Students write a Master's thesis and present at a Master's seminar. The programme is taught at a small technical university, and many courses are shared across disciplines, providing contact with students in engineering and economics. International students have access to German language courses as part of their studies.
