The Master of Science in Aquatic Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä focuses on freshwater systems — lakes, rivers, and wetlands — and the biological and physical-chemical processes that govern them. Students gain knowledge of how organisms interact with their aquatic environments, how human activity affects these ecosystems, and what ecosystem services inland waters provide to society. The programme combines field work in natural environments with laboratory and theoretical study, taking advantage of the lakes and diverse freshwater landscapes that surround the university campus. Students are also encouraged to broaden their degree with complementary studies in statistics, chemistry, physics, or social and economic sciences. The MSc runs for two years starting in September 2026 and is based at the University of Jyväskylä in Jyväskylä.
