Bachelor in Asian Studies

Asian Studies at Sogang University surveys the histories, politics, economies, and cultures of countries across the Asian region, situated within the Division of International Studies in Mapo-gu, South Korea. Students typically study comparative politics, regional economic development, cultural and religious traditions, and the historical relationships between East Asian, Southeast Asian, and South Asian countries. The program often draws on political science, history, sociology, and economics to help students understand how the region's diverse societies interact through trade, diplomacy, and cultural exchange. Because Asia includes such a wide range of political systems and economic models, coursework tends to combine broad regional surveys with more focused country or subregion studies. The bachelor's degree takes four years to complete, with intakes in March and September each year, following the standard South Korean academic calendar. All classes are taught in English, allowing international students to study the region from within one of its major economies without needing prior Korean-language skills. Graduates of Asian studies programs pursue careers in diplomacy, international organizations, journalism, trade and business development, and regional risk analysis for corporations operating across Asia. Others move into further graduate study in international relations, area studies, or political science. Because the program is based in Seoul, students also gain firsthand exposure to South Korea's own political and economic development, which serves as a case study within the broader regional material covered in their coursework.
