The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in fire science with a concentration in municipal fire control is a two-year program focused on preparing you to work as an emergency services professional with specific skills related to working in a municipal fire department. The program provides a unique learning environment where you will have the opportunity to apply your classroom education through hands-on training and obtain practical vocational experience through local fire and rescue organizations. Program coursework includes principles of emergency services, fire prevention, strategies/tactics, rescue practices, fire behavior/combustion, hydraulics and water supply, hazardous materials, fire protection systems, and fire administration. You will also complete coursework that leads to IFSAC/Proboard Firefighter certification and certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
