Illustration is an act of translation—taking the abstract, the complex, or the unseen and giving it form, narrative, and visual resonance. This programme invites you to explore how visual language functions in the contemporary world, moving beyond surface aesthetics to address the conceptual and ethical responsibilities of the modern illustrator. Designed for those who wish to command both traditional craft and emerging digital technologies, the course provides a rigorous, experimental space to cultivate your unique voice.

By integrating a dedicated foundation year, you gain the essential creative and academic scaffolding required for higher-level inquiry. You will work alongside a vibrant community of practitioners within the Creative Industries Institute, learning to navigate the tension between personal creative vision and professional client mandates. The curriculum emphasizes the "thinking eye," centering drawing as the primary tool for research, process, and sophisticated visual communication.

A Practice Built on Care and Resilience

The programme distinguishes itself through a commitment to "care as a critical activity," encouraging students to consider their impact on global human contexts and the more-than-human world. You will not merely learn to draw; you will learn to negotiate the future of the creative industries through live, industry-led projects, collaborative workshops, and a focus on professional adaptability. Whether working on commercial commissions or activist initiatives, you are prepared to build a practice that is as resilient as it is imaginative.
