📚 About the Program

At Ulster we offer a 4-year Master of Optometry with Honours degree program.Optometry is a well-established and high profile component of the University’s portfolio of undergraduate courses. The four-year Masters in Optometry (MOptom) Hons is based on the Coleraine campus and provides a diverse but structured curriculum of teaching, learning and assessment, enabling students to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of the subject. Teaching is informed by high quality research in a wide range of areas including, for example, visual and geometrical optics, paediatric vision care and glaucoma detection. A variety of teaching and learning methods are utilised including lectures, laboratory-based practicals and an extensive range of clinical work. Much of the clinical teaching is undertaken in Ulster University’s Optometry Clinic. The clinic contains a wide range of ophthalmic equipment for both teaching and research and is a public access primary care clinic. Clinical experience is also provided in NHS hospitals and in both short and extended placements in external (off-campus) clinical practice.
