The Fundamentals programme line is dedicated to the acquisition of insights and skills that form the basis of contemporary design practice. It starts with an extensive introduction in the first year and continues into the second half of the 3rd year, after which students enter the final phase of the BA programme. Fundamentals consists of three broad subject areas: design studies, production studies and contextual studies.
Design studies is about developing your creativity through exploring the formal aspects of design and gaining insight into the design process. This includes design grammar, methodology and research, presentation techniques, project management and communication skills.
Production studies is about understanding materials and production processes and how to translate your intentions into tangible outcomes. It provides insight into materials and production processes. Students investigate how various components, materials, processes, and technologies relate to different contexts. This discipline also provides space to explore developments in technological innovation and emerging technologies.
