Bachelor in Bds Dental Surgery With Integrated Foundation Year

At University of Plymouth, tuition fees are 38,000 GBP per year.

Addressing the complex intersection of oral health and community wellbeing requires a blend of rigorous scientific training and compassionate, patient-centred care. This programme is specifically designed for students who demonstrate the potential to excel in dentistry but lack the traditional academic background for direct entry, providing a supportive 'gateway' year to bridge the gap into professional dental practice.

By enrolling in this integrated foundation pathway, students immerse themselves in an interdisciplinary environment alongside peers from medical, biomedical, and dental therapy fields. The curriculum focuses on building academic confidence, critical self-awareness, and the fundamental scientific knowledge required for the subsequent five years of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). Distinctive features of this programme include:

• Early Clinical Exposure: Students engage with patient care and clinical environments from the very first year, fostering communication skills and professional competence early in their journey.
• Enquiry Based Learning (EBL): The course utilises active, team-based learning strategies that mirror the collaborative nature of modern dental practice.
• Community Engagement: Partnerships with the Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (PDSE) allow students to contribute to real-world dental outreach, ensuring they graduate not just as clinicians, but as socially conscious practitioners ready to tackle oral health inequalities.
