Bachelor in BEng Industrial Engineering with Work-Integrated Option

The BEng Industrial Engineering programme at Hochschule Bielefeld combines business-related and technical courses to qualify graduates for interdisciplinary roles in companies. The curriculum covers the economic and technical evaluation, organisation, and optimisation of processes, preparing students to operate across functional boundaries. The programme runs over 7 semesters starting in the winter semester. Students in the standard track prepare term papers during lecture-free periods in the fourth and fifth semesters, either on assigned topics or through work-oriented projects. A mandatory company internship takes place during the lecture-free period of the sixth semester. The work-integrated option runs alongside employment at a partner company from the outset: each semester divides into an academic term of lectures, seminars, and laboratory courses, followed by a work term at the company. Students in the work-integrated track receive financial remuneration for that employment. Switching from the standard to the work-integrated track is possible because the two courses of study are largely identical. The integrated work experience is designed to benefit both the student and the company and can lay the groundwork for a permanent position after graduation. The programme is delivered at the Gütersloh campus of Hochschule Bielefeld.
