About Master in Biblical Studies

Applications close 1 Jul.

The Master's programme in Biblical Studies (MBSt) at the University of Bonn centres on the analysis and interpretation of original language texts from the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament. The compulsory curriculum covers textual methods, the literary and reception history of these writings, and key themes and traditions across different theological approaches. An elective module allows students to extend their historical knowledge or engage with current topics in the field. The programme runs over 2 semesters and is designed primarily as preparation for doctoral studies in Protestant Theology, particularly with a focus on Old Testament or New Testament scholarship. Students work directly with source texts in their original languages and use the Master's thesis to explore potential doctoral research directions. Current research questions are integrated across all modules. The MBSt is offered by the Faculty of Protestant Theology in cooperation with the Centre for Religion and Society, which opens additional interdisciplinary perspectives in the elective area. The programme is based at the University of Bonn in Bonn.
