The Bioengineering BSc at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is an interdisciplinary programme combining the natural sciences and engineering to develop new materials and technologies. The curriculum focuses on three main areas of biotechnology: health and medicine, agriculture, and industry. Through elective choices, students can add additional emphasis in plant biotechnology or industrial biotechnology. The programme runs over 7 semesters starting in the winter semester and is taught in English. Students from over 60 countries have enrolled since the programme began in winter semester 2012/2013. Teaching makes use of small group work and modern laboratories. Graduates are prepared for roles in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnological industries as well as careers in research, with typical positions in areas such as industrial production management, research and development of chemical processes, and analytical work in government agencies, agrotechnology, the food industry, the environmental industry, or waste management. The programme is based at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve.
