Master in Biostatistics

The University of Zurich offers a Master of Science in Biostatistics. This program focuses on analyzing and interpreting biomedical data. Students gain in-depth statistical knowledge and its application in biomedical research. The curriculum provides skills for expert data analysis and study design. Small student groups allow for individualized advising and close interaction.

The Master's program can be completed with 90 ECTS credits as a Mono program. Alternatively, it can be pursued as a Major with a Minor, requiring 90 + 30 ECTS credits. This is currently the only specialized program for biostatistician training in Switzerland.

Applicants need a Bachelor's or Master's degree with introductions to probability, statistics, analysis, and linear algebra. English language proficiency at C1 level is required. Working knowledge of the R software environment for statistical computing is also necessary. Graduates are prepared for careers in academia, the pharmaceutical industry, financial institutions, insurance, marketing, and research departments.
