Edinburgh Napier University hosts Scotland’s first undergraduate Data Science degree, a programme built to bridge the gap between complex theoretical mathematics and the practical, high-stakes demands of modern industry. Designed for students who want to move beyond basic analytics, the course integrates artificial intelligence, statistical modelling, and business intelligence to extract actionable knowledge from the massive, often unstructured datasets that define today’s global economy.

This degree is uniquely practical, developed in collaboration with the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal, ensuring that the curriculum remains aligned with current market needs. Students are immersed in real-world scenarios, learning to manipulate big data to address challenges ranging from climate change to financial modelling. With embedded opportunities for professional work placements and a strong focus on data ethics, the programme prepares graduates not just to write code, but to lead data-driven innovation in sectors as diverse as healthcare, sports, and government.
