Students who are curious about the mechanics of our planet—from the highest reaches of the atmosphere to the depths of the ocean floor—will find a home in this specialized programme. By focusing strictly on the physical sciences, this course equips you with the technical capability to map, monitor, and interpret the environmental processes that define our world and dictate our future.

This extended degree is specifically designed for those who may not meet the standard entry requirements for direct undergraduate entry. It provides a dedicated foundation year (Level 3) that acts as a bridge to higher education. During this time, you will:

• Gain a firm grasp of complex environmental challenges and contemporary sustainability issues.
• Develop fundamental academic skills necessary for success in a university environment.
• Bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application through hands-on fieldwork.
• Explore the interplay between urban and rural environments and their respective populations.

Beyond the foundation year, you will join the main degree programme, where you will learn from internationally recognised researchers. A hallmark of the experience is the regular schedule of day and residential field trips across the UK and Europe, ensuring you are not just learning about research, but actively participating in it. There is also the flexibility to undertake a semester-based or year-long work placement, offering a vital opportunity to apply your technical skills in a professional setting before graduation.
