Forestry management, delivered here through a BTS (Brevet de Technicien Supérieur) in Gestion forestière, prepares students for the technical management of forests and woodland resources, covering the biological, environmental, and economic dimensions of forestry. The discipline draws on forest ecology, silviculture, timber measurement and harvesting techniques, land and resource mapping, and the regulatory framework governing forest use and conservation in France. Students typically study tree species identification, forest health and pest management, sustainable harvesting planning, and the coordination of logging or replanting operations, alongside business subjects such as budgeting and contract management for forestry work. Fieldwork is a central part of training, since forestry technicians must be able to assess stands of trees, plan interventions, and supervise work carried out on site. The program also generally addresses the balance between timber production and environmental objectives such as biodiversity conservation and carbon storage, reflecting the dual production and stewardship role of forest management.
