Bachelor in BUT - Mesures physiques

At the Institut Universitaire de Technologie de Reims in Reims, France, the BUT - Mesures physiques (Physical Measurements) is a three-year bachelor-level programme delivered in French from September, with yearly tuition of 178 EUR. Physical measurements is a discipline at the intersection of physics, instrumentation engineering, and data science, training students to design, operate, and validate the measurement systems that industry and research depend on for quality control, process monitoring, and scientific investigation. Students develop a solid foundation in physics — covering optics, acoustics, mechanics, electromagnetism, and thermodynamics — alongside courses in electronics, signal processing, statistics, and metrological standards. An important part of the training is learning to quantify and manage measurement uncertainty, a skill critical in regulated industries. Substantial laboratory work gives students hands-on experience with instruments, sensors, and data acquisition systems, and professional internships in industrial or research environments connect this learning to real measurement challenges. Graduates are equipped for roles as measurement and testing technicians, metrology engineers, quality control specialists, or laboratory analysts in sectors including pharmaceuticals, aerospace, automotive, energy, medical devices, and scientific instrumentation manufacturing. The programme also provides a pathway for students who wish to continue into a master's degree in physics, instrumentation, or materials science. All teaching is conducted in French.
