Master in Chemistry

Gdańsk, Poland Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Offered by the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Gdańsk in Gdańsk, Poland, this master's program in Chemistry runs for 2 years (4 semesters) and is taught in English. The program introduces a specialization in Digital Chemistry, aimed at training a new generation of computational and theoretical chemists with broad, practice-based knowledge. Students build a foundation in quantum chemistry, molecular mechanics and dynamics, and coarse-grain modelling, alongside exploratory data analysis and machine learning methods. The curriculum also covers artificial intelligence applied to computer-aided drug design, numerical methods and algorithms for the chemical and physical sciences, and advanced programming in R and Python. At least two courses are strongly project-oriented, so students apply theoretical and modelling methods in practice rather than only studying them in lectures. Graduates of the full-time second-degree program gain in-depth knowledge, skills, and competences in specialist areas of the chemical sciences. In particular, they are prepared to independently solve chemical problems, conduct research, and collect and critically analyze both experimental and computational data. Graduates also acquire advanced knowledge in the core branches of chemistry, modern cheminformatics techniques, computational methods in molecular quantum mechanics, and theoretical and computational approaches to physics-based modelling and simulation. Chemistry graduates with a computational focus typically find work in pharmaceutical research, materials science, data-driven laboratories, and software development for scientific applications. The combination of programming skills and chemical theory covered in this program also supports further doctoral study or roles in cheminformatics and drug discovery, fields that increasingly rely on computational modelling alongside traditional laboratory work.
