Altınbaş University

Bachelor in Civil Engineering

İstanbul, Turkey Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Civil engineering deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the built environment, including buildings, roads, bridges, water systems and other infrastructure. Students study structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, construction materials, surveying and hydraulics, developing the technical foundation needed to plan projects that are safe, durable and economically sound. Laboratory and field work typically complement lecture-based courses, exposing students to material testing and site practices. Because infrastructure projects involve long timelines, regulatory approval and coordination among many stakeholders, the discipline also develops project management and communication skills alongside technical ones. Graduates commonly work for construction firms, government infrastructure agencies, consulting engineering practices or utility companies, in roles covering design, site supervision and project management. Many further specialize in areas such as structural, transportation, geotechnical or water resources engineering, or pursue licensure and graduate study to broaden their technical scope. Later coursework often allows students to focus on a preferred track, such as structural design, transportation systems or environmental engineering, while retaining a shared foundation in mechanics and materials. Group design projects simulate the collaborative nature of real construction work, requiring coordination across disciplines to produce a coherent, buildable design. This 4 years program is offered at Altınbaş University in İstanbul, Turkey, and is taught in English.
