Hacettepe University

Bachelor in Civil Engineering

Ankara, Turkey Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Civil engineering is the discipline concerned with the design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure such as buildings, bridges, roads, dams, and water supply systems. Students study structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, construction materials, transportation engineering, hydraulics, and project management, combining theoretical coursework with laboratory testing and design studios. Core topics include the behavior of concrete and steel under load, soil mechanics and foundation design, surveying, and the planning of transportation networks. Students also learn to use engineering software for structural modeling and to apply building codes and safety standards in their designs. Civil engineering graduates work as structural engineers, site engineers, project managers on construction projects, and consultants for infrastructure planning. Many join municipal and national government departments responsible for roads, water systems, and urban development, while others work for private construction and engineering firms. The discipline also supports further specialization in areas such as earthquake engineering, transportation planning, and water resources engineering through graduate study. This 4-year bachelor's program is offered at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, with instruction delivered in English. Ankara's ongoing urban development and its concentration of engineering firms and public infrastructure agencies give students exposure to active construction and planning work throughout their studies. The English-medium instruction allows graduates to engage with international engineering literature, standards, and codes, and supports subsequent study or employment outside Turkey. Hacettepe University's Ankara location places the program within a large metropolitan environment where civil engineering projects, from housing to transportation, are visible and ongoing.
