Bachelor in Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering is the discipline concerned with the design, construction, and maintenance of the built environment, including buildings, bridges, roads, water systems, and other infrastructure. Students study structural analysis, materials science, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, surveying, construction management, and engineering mathematics, along with computer-aided design and modeling tools used to plan and evaluate structures. Coursework typically progresses from foundational physics and mathematics toward specialized subjects such as reinforced concrete design, steel structures, transportation engineering, and environmental engineering. Graduates pursue careers as structural, geotechnical, transportation, or construction engineers, working for construction firms, government infrastructure agencies, engineering consultancies, and urban planning bodies, or continue into graduate study in structural or geotechnical engineering. The field also increasingly incorporates sustainability considerations and building information modeling as part of standard practice. This program is a 4 year bachelor's degree taught in English at Istanbul Okan University in Istanbul, Turkey. Instruction in English allows students to engage directly with international engineering literature, codes, and design standards throughout their studies. The program combines classroom instruction with laboratory and design work, building toward the practical and analytical skills expected of practicing civil engineers, and positions graduates for employment across Turkey's construction and infrastructure sector as well as international opportunities.
