Bachelor in Civil Engineering

Trabzon, Turkey Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Civil Engineering covers the planning, design, and construction of infrastructure such as buildings, bridges, roads, water systems, and other structures that form the built environment. Core coursework includes structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, construction materials, fluid mechanics, and surveying, alongside project management and construction methods. Students learn to apply principles of mechanics and materials science to design structures that safely carry loads, and they study how soil and foundation conditions affect construction. Laboratory work involves testing construction materials such as concrete and steel, while design coursework often includes computer-aided design tools used throughout the construction industry. Many programs also address water resources engineering, transportation engineering, and environmental considerations in construction, reflecting how broad the discipline has become as infrastructure projects increasingly need to account for sustainability and resilience. Group design projects give students experience working through the full lifecycle of a civil engineering project, from initial site analysis and design through to construction planning. Regulatory and safety standards are woven throughout the curriculum, since civil engineers are responsible for structures that must meet strict safety requirements. Graduates work for construction firms, infrastructure and engineering consultancies, government agencies responsible for public works, and real estate development companies, in roles spanning design engineering, site supervision, and project management. This bachelor's program is taught in English over 4 years at Karadeniz Technical University in Trabzon, Turkey. English-medium instruction gives students exposure to international engineering codes and standards commonly referenced across the profession. The four-year sequence builds from foundational mechanics and materials coursework toward specialized design coursework in structural, geotechnical, or transportation engineering in later semesters.
