This program is grounded in research and theory-to-practice methodology. Students learn to address social justice issues through critical analysis and community-based interventions. The curriculum focuses on alternatives to policing and prisons. Students develop skills in advocacy, conflict mediation, and support work with vulnerable populations.

Focus areas include Indigenous Studies, anti-racism/anti-oppression, gender and sexuality studies, disability justice, trauma-informed practices, addictions and harm reduction.

Two years, full-time or part-time delivery, includes a 12-week field placement. No co-op or practicum beyond the placement.

Graduates may work in community-based agencies supporting youth and adults with mental health, family violence, addictions, disability, resettlement, employment, and housing needs.

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or mature student status. English Grade 12 (ENG4C or equivalent). IELTS overall 6.0 with no band below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT prior to Jan 21, 2026 overall 80 with minimums of 20 in each section, or TOEFL iBT after Jan 21, 2026 overall 4 with minimums of 4 in each section, or Duolingo English Test overall 110 with no score below 95.

Full-time on-campus in Ottawa, full-time online, or part-time online; asynchronous delivery.
