Bachelor in Computational Linguistics / Computerlinguistik

Tübingen, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The BA in Computational Linguistics (ISCL) at the University of Tübingen is an interdisciplinary programme combining linguistics and computer science. It covers both the practical side — programming, data structures, and algorithms — and the linguistic foundations, including morphology, phonology, syntax, and semantics. Courses connect these two dimensions and engage with current research topics and applications in the field. The programme runs over 6 semesters, starting in the winter semester. During the first four semesters, students follow a structured schedule of introductory and advanced courses in programming and linguistic analysis. A mandatory four-week internship is included in the first two years, along with key qualification courses such as language courses and additional technology classes. In the final two semesters, students choose advanced seminars and complete a Bachelor's thesis. The programme gives graduates the foundation to pursue research at MA or PhD level, as well as the practical skills to work as a computational linguist in the language technology industry. It is offered at the University of Tübingen in Tübingen, Germany.
