Master in Computer Science International (CSI)

The Master's programme in Computer Science International at the University of Rostock is research-oriented and runs over 4 semesters. It prepares graduates for work in computer science-related fields in industry, academia, and public service, with emphasis on grounding students in solid theoretical foundations and engineering methods. The programme is structured around two core topics: Information Systems, which covers software, algorithms, data structures, databases, big data, data mining, privacy, software engineering, human-computer interaction, machine learning, and simulation; and Complex Systems, which addresses architectures, models, and tools for large distributed systems, covering modelling, simulation, systems analysis, safety, cryptography, distributed algorithms, and web technology. Students choose one core topic as their major (30 ECTS) and the other as a minor (12 ECTS), with an additional 12 ECTS drawn from either topic or from other departmental offerings. A topical seminar concludes the major topic. The programme also includes a project worth 12 ECTS, a non-technical option worth 12 ECTS, and a master's thesis worth 30 ECTS.
