Master in Computer Science

This research-oriented master's programme in Computer Science runs over 4 semesters and is organised as a modular structure that gives students applied and academic expertise in areas of their choosing. Students select between two tracks: the Open Track and the Distributed Systems Engineering track. In the Open Track, students choose modules from three of eight subject areas, each worth 12 credit points, covering fields such as Theoretical Computer Science and Symbolic Artificial Intelligence, Software Technology and Programming Languages, Secure Computing, Systems Architecture, Cyber-Physical Systems, Visual Computing and Machine Learning, Human-Computer Interaction and Interactive Media, and Computer Engineering and High Performance Computing. A supplementary elective area adds non-computer science options and a research topic analysis module to help prepare students for the master's thesis. The Distributed Systems Engineering track follows a predefined study path focused on analysing, designing, and operating distributed software systems, with coverage of software engineering, system architecture, and security. Students in this track choose track-specific elective modules worth 36 credit points in addition to compulsory requirements. Both tracks share a research project completed in the third semester, a general qualifications elective area covering skills such as rhetoric and communication, and a master's thesis in the fourth semester.
