Graduate School of Global and Regional Studies

Toyo University offers a Course of Global Innovation Studies as a two-year master's degree taught in English, based in Tokyo, with entry points in September and April. Founded in 1887, Toyo University describes itself as the only private university in Japan built around the practice of philosophy education, a tradition traced to founder Enryo Inoue, who wanted students to develop their own perspectives and insights amid rapid social change; the university frames this emphasis on independent thinking as increasingly relevant in a globalized, culturally diverse society. A master's program in global innovation studies typically draws on management, technology, and social science to examine how innovation is generated, adopted, and diffused across organizations and societies. Students study topics such as entrepreneurship, technology strategy, and the social and economic effects of innovation, often through case studies of both established companies and new ventures operating across borders. Seminar discussion, applied projects, and in many programs a thesis supervised by faculty are common ways graduate study in this field builds both conceptual and practical skills. Graduates of global innovation studies programs pursue careers in corporate innovation and strategy roles, consulting, technology management, and entrepreneurship, or continue toward doctoral research. Completing the degree in Tokyo over two years combines Toyo University's philosophy-based approach to independent thinking with applied, English-language study of innovation in a global context.
