Master in Css Cranlea 2 Mres

Applications for the Oct 2027 intake close on Jul 15, 2027; tuition fees are 16,000 GBP per year.

Understanding the physiological limits of human endurance requires a granular look at how athletes adapt to environmental stressors over time. This Masters by Research (MRes), a collaboration between the Carnegie School of Sport and Cranlea Human Performance Ltd, invites a dedicated researcher to investigate the long-term longitudinal changes and individual variability in haemoglobin mass among athletes.

While altitude training is a common strategy for boosting aerobic capacity, the maintenance of these gains outside of controlled training camps remains a complex, under-researched phenomenon. This programme moves beyond short-term snapshots by focusing on how haemoglobin mass fluctuates throughout a full training and competition cycle. Candidates will engage in high-level applied physiology, working directly with high-performance groups and utilizing advanced techniques such as carbon monoxide rebreathing.
