Utilizing high-fidelity data from instrumented mouthguards and integrated video analysis, this PhD studentship provides a unique opportunity to quantify contact load in elite rugby union. Based within the Carnegie School of Sport, the successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team to evaluate the physical collision loading that players undergo during training and match play, specifically within the context of the South African Currie Cup. This research is critical for developing evidence-based guidance on head acceleration events and body impacts, directly influencing player welfare and safety protocols globally.
