Saarland University

Master in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (MSc)

Saarbrücken, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The Master of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Saarland University draws on teaching from faculty across the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Language Science and Technology, and several research institutes based on campus — including CISPA, DFKI, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, and the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems. This concentration of research activity in a single location shapes both the content and the research culture of the programme. The programme covers the analytical and computational foundations of working with data at scale: mathematics, statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data, data management, modelling, simulation, and data visualisation. The approach emphasises how techniques from different disciplines work together to analyse data, automate processes, and build models capable of autonomous action. Students have considerable flexibility in shaping their studies. There is no fixed timetable; courses are chosen according to individual interest and specialisation, and part-time study is possible. During the first three semesters, students select lectures and seminars — including core lectures, advanced lectures, and seminars within their chosen area. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis. The programme is open to winter and summer semester entry. Saarland University is located in Saarbrücken, Germany.
