About Master in Data Science

Data Science at the University of Regensburg is a four-semester master's programme that prepares students to work as data scientists across areas such as biomedical research, the technology industry, and business. The programme is structured around a compulsory area, a compulsory elective area in Machine Learning and Statistics, and a compulsory elective area in Specialisation. The compulsory area requires at least 66 ECTS and includes the module Modern Machine Learning with associated lab (6 ECTS), two free elective modules (12 ECTS each), a seminar on current topics in data science (6 ECTS), and a Master's thesis (30 ECTS). The compulsory Machine Learning and Statistics elective area requires at least 12 ECTS from modules covering topics such as Statistical Machine Learning, Advanced Statistics I and II, Advanced Explainable AI, Advanced Data Engineering, and Digital Image Processing. The Specialisation elective area requires at least 42 ECTS and students must choose one of four tracks: Machine Learning and Statistics, Computational Life Sciences, Human-Centred Data Science, or Information Systems. The choice of specialisation is mandatory, and completing the thesis within the chosen specialisation allows it to appear on the Master's certificate. Entry is available in both winter and summer semesters. The programme is based at the University of Regensburg in Regensburg, Germany.
