Master in Département Son

The Son (Sound) département is one of the seven specializations of La Fémis's four-year cursus principal. It is run by directors Jean-Pierre Laforce and Valérie Deloof and admits six students per intake through the concours général.

The stated pedagogical aim is that every technical and theoretical skill taught should ultimately serve a film's project. Students build technical and methodological foundations for sound work in cinema, with training focused on the equipment most used professionally so that its mastery can quickly be put at the service of a production. The département explicitly avoids early specialisation (e.g. into location sound versus mixing) in favour of a broad grounding.

Teamwork, punctuality and a shared working vocabulary with other crew roles — particularly the Réalisation département — are emphasised throughout.
