Doctoral Programme in Medicine (4 yrs)

The Doctoral Programme in Medicine at Tampere trains students to conduct independent scientific research and to function as scientific experts in demanding academic, research, teaching, and management roles within health and society. Students are expected to develop in-depth knowledge in their chosen field while also broadening their understanding of medicine and health sciences more generally. The program covers an extensive set of disciplines: biostatistics, epidemiology, gerontology, global health and development, health economics, health care management, health services research, health sociology, occupational health, public health, social psychiatry, and social and health policy. A doctoral degree can be awarded across all these disciplines. Most candidates conduct their dissertation work within one of the program's research groups, and the field of study is shaped by the supervisor's discipline. Students can complete either the degree of Doctor of Medical Science or Doctor of Philosophy. The program runs for four years, with a start date of January 2027.
