Drilling engineering

Drilling Engineering at AGH University of Science and Technology is a non-degree postgraduate program lasting two semesters, or one academic year, taught in English in Kraków, Poland. Yearly tuition is EUR 3,200. The program gives theoretical knowledge to people already working in the petroleum industry or looking to enter it. Coursework covers drilling, well logging, economics, petroleum geology, oil reservoir production, gas reservoir production, well testing, and quality, health, safety, and environmental management systems, alongside more specialized subjects such as rock mechanics, wellbore design, drilling and production equipment, drilling fluids, drilling technology, well completion, and workover. Classes are scheduled on weekends, running from Friday afternoon through Sunday, an average of twice a month, a format designed to accommodate students already working in the industry. Drilling engineering sits within petroleum and mining engineering and focuses on the design, planning, and execution of wells used to extract oil and gas, along with the equipment, fluids, and safety systems involved in that process. Students in this field typically build on an existing technical background and add specialized knowledge in well design, subsurface conditions, and production operations. Graduates typically go on to work for drilling contractors, oil and gas operators, service companies, and engineering consultancies, in roles connected to well planning, drilling operations, and production engineering. Because the program runs as part-time weekend study, it particularly suits professionals already working in the sector who want to add formal postgraduate training in drilling engineering without leaving their jobs.
