Empathy, clinical precision, and a passion for human potential are the hallmarks of successful students in this Honours Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation. You will master the art of designing strength-based interventions that empower individuals to reclaim their quality of life, independence, and overall well-being. This degree bridges the gap between academic theory and the fast-paced, interdisciplinary reality of modern Canadian healthcare.

As the only program of its kind in the Greater Toronto Area, this curriculum offers a distinct blend of health sciences, psychology, and recreational theory. You will move beyond the classroom into diverse clinical and community settings, learning to adapt leisure activities to meet the specific physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of your clients.

Integrated Clinical Experience

The program structure is built on the philosophy that professional expertise is earned through both study and service. You will engage in a robust experiential learning model featuring:

• Four distinct field placements to build your professional network.
• A mandatory, full-time work term requiring a minimum of 560 hours.
• Collaborative, interdisciplinary training that prepares you to work alongside healthcare professionals in hospitals, mental health centres, and rehabilitation facilities.

By graduation, you will be prepared not only to practice but to lead, with the academic credentials to pursue professional accreditation through Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) and the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
