About Master in Economics

The Master's programme in Economics at Osnabrück University is a four-semester programme providing a broad foundation in economics alongside opportunities for individual specialisation. It covers microeconomics, macroeconomics, public finance, international economic policy, statistics and econometrics, and environmental economics. Students may specialise in either Empirical Economics or Sustainability, Behaviour and Environmental Policy. The programme can begin in either the winter or summer semester. The mandatory component is a single module, Advanced Methods of Business and Economics (10 credit points), covering econometric analysis and microeconomic analysis. The elective component accounts for 90 credit points, of which at least 60 must come from economics and quantitative methods modules and at least 10 from business administration. The remaining 20 credit points may be selected freely from economics, business administration, or a prescribed set of other modules. The Master's thesis accounts for 20 credit points. The Empirical Economics specialisation emphasises research-based teaching with a methodological focus on statistics and econometrics, including a project seminar involving independent empirical research. The Sustainability, Behaviour and Environmental Policy specialisation combines environmental economics with behavioural economics, addressing topics such as CO2 pricing and the role of social norms and incentive tools in environmental policy. The programme is based at Osnabrück University in Osnabrück, Germany.
