PhD in Economics

Economics at the University of Warsaw is a PhD program lasting four years, taught in English in Warszawa, Poland. Yearly tuition is EUR 4,500. The program is run through the Faculty of Economic Sciences, and admission is centered on the assessment of an applicant's proposed research. Applicants submit a letter of request addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences, along with their master's degree diploma or, in particular cases, a document confirming that their dissertation is under review, a transcript of records with certified results and average ratings, a curriculum vitae, three photos, proof of foreign language competence including English proficiency at least at the B2 level or equivalent, a personal questionnaire, a description of their academic interests, and information about their academic activities, including publications, awards, internships, scholarships, conference participation, prior research experience, and other academic achievements. Applicants also submit an outline of the PhD project intended to form the basis of their doctoral dissertation. Admission involves an assessment of these documents together with an interview. A doctoral program in economics of this kind trains students to carry out original, independent research contributing new findings to economic theory or applied economics, typically culminating in a dissertation developed over several years of coursework, seminars, and supervised research. Graduates of PhD programs in economics go on to careers in academic research and teaching, at central banks and government economic agencies, in international organizations, and in research roles within the private sector, wherever advanced quantitative and theoretical training in economics is required.
