At the University of Plymouth, the study of mathematics is driven by world-leading researchers and a commitment to real-world application. This degree pathway is specifically designed for students who are passionate about mathematics and are considering a future in education. By blending high-level mathematical study with practical teaching experience, the programme prepares you for a career in secondary or primary education, as well as other professional fields requiring advanced analytical skills.

Distinctive Educational Integration

What sets this programme apart is the seamless integration of theoretical mathematical study with hands-on classroom practice. You will gain a deep, mastery-level understanding of pure and applied mathematics and statistics, while simultaneously exploring the theory of learning and human development. A core highlight of the final year is the school placement module, where you work directly within a department, developing essential communication and leadership skills. Furthermore, our Mathematics Education Lead, Dr. Jenny Sharp, provides unique opportunities to engage in outreach and masterclass events for schools, allowing you to build confidence and refine your workshop-leading abilities long before you graduate.
