Master in ENGLISH AND AMERICAN STUDIES

Tuition is 2,800 EUR per year.

English and American Studies is a graduate humanities field devoted to the literature, language, history, and culture of English-speaking countries, particularly the United Kingdom and the United States. Students typically study literary texts across different periods and genres, alongside linguistics, cultural theory, and the historical and social contexts that shaped English-language literature and media. Coursework often includes close reading and critical analysis of novels, poetry, and drama, as well as study of film, media, and popular culture produced in English-speaking societies. Some programs also address translation, comparative literature, or postcolonial studies, examining how English has developed as a global language across different regions. This master's degree in English and American Studies is offered by Università degli Studi di Torino, located in Torino, Italy, taught in English, and runs for two years. Graduates from this field pursue varied careers, including teaching, publishing, editorial work, journalism, cultural management, translation, and roles in international organizations or media companies that require strong analytical and writing skills. The degree also provides a foundation for further academic study at the doctoral level for those interested in literary or cultural research. Beyond specific career tracks, the training develops close reading, critical thinking, and communication skills that are broadly valued across many professional fields. Students often graduate with the ability to analyze texts and cultural products critically, write clearly and persuasively, and understand how language and literature reflect and shape broader social and historical developments in the English-speaking world.
