İngiliz Dili ve Edebiyatı

English Language and Literature examines the development of English-language writing across historical periods and genres, alongside the structure and use of the English language itself. Students typically study British and American literature, literary theory and criticism, linguistics, and academic writing, developing close reading and analytical skills applied to poetry, drama, and prose. Coursework often includes seminar discussions, essay writing, and comparative analysis of texts from different eras, helping students understand how literature reflects and shapes cultural and historical context. This bachelor's program spans 4 years and is taught in English at Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University in İstanbul, Turkey, giving students an immersive language environment that supports both literary study and practical fluency. The curriculum generally balances survey courses covering major literary movements with more focused electives on specific authors, genres, or critical approaches. Graduates pursue careers in education, publishing, journalism, translation, and content writing, as well as roles in cultural institutions and media organizations that value strong analytical and communication skills. Many graduates go on to teacher training or graduate study in literature, linguistics, or comparative literature. Because the program develops advanced reading, writing, and critical thinking abilities, graduates often find these skills transferable to fields beyond literature itself, including law, business communications, and public relations. Being based in İstanbul provides students with a culturally rich setting for language study, along with access to libraries, cultural events, and an international academic community that can enrich literary discussion throughout the four years of coursework.
