İngiliz Dili ve Edebiyatı

English language and literature programs examine the English language and its literary traditions across historical periods, genres, and regions. Students typically study close reading and literary analysis, covering poetry, drama, and prose from different eras, alongside courses in linguistics, literary theory, and the historical development of the English language. The curriculum often includes British, American, and other English-language literatures, encouraging students to consider texts within their social, cultural, and historical contexts. Writing is a central skill developed throughout the program, with students producing analytical essays, critical commentary, and sometimes creative work, building strong reading, interpretation, and argumentation abilities. Seminar-style discussion is common, giving students practice articulating and defending interpretations of texts in conversation with classmates and instructors. Beyond literary study, many programs also address related areas such as translation, rhetoric, and cultural studies, broadening the practical applications of the degree. Graduates of English language and literature programs pursue careers in education, publishing, journalism, editing, translation, and communications, and the strong analytical and writing skills developed in the program also transfer well to law, media, and other fields that value clear thinking and precise expression. This bachelor's program runs 4 years and is taught in English, which is central to a field built on close engagement with English-language texts and scholarship. It is offered at Istanbul Bilgi University in Istanbul, Turkey, giving students a base from which to engage with both English-language literary tradition and the broader multilingual and multicultural environment of the city.
