PhD in Five Year PsyD School Psychology

Fairleigh Dickinson University's five-year PsyD School Psychology program offers a comprehensive training experience in school psychology, with an emphasis on clinical practice and research. This program, which includes a 1,500-hour internship, prepares graduates for licensure and to hold leadership roles in a wide variety of settings.

Students learn about typical development and human diversity within the context of school settings, and the need to understand these issues prior to evaluating systems, communities, classrooms, or individuals. The program provides opportunities for students to utilize the Problem-Solver model and to apply a preventive and multi-tiered framework when addressing identified problems. Coursework, course-embedded and independently-pursued practicum experiences, and comprehensive fieldwork are integral to the program, with feedback on professional growth shared throughout by both university- and field-based supervisors.

The practitioner-scholar model is adhered to, delivering quality training and evidence-based practices. Graduates can function in leadership positions, providing direct and indirect services, and conducting research and education. Graduates have successfully met licensure requirements in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. The program is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists through 2032, allowing graduates to become Nationally Certified School Psychologists.
