On-campus laboratory immersion serves as the cornerstone of this degree, where students actively engage in the scientific processes that define the modern food industry. You will spend significant time analyzing foodborne pathogens, examining food-spoiling bacteria, and collecting sensory data to refine the taste, texture, and appearance of food and beverage products.

Bridging Science and Industry

This programme integrates biology, chemistry, nutrition, and engineering to solve complex challenges in food safety, processing, and packaging. It is specifically designed for students who enjoy hands-on experimentation and are eager to apply scientific principles to improve the quality and safety of the food supply. By collaborating with specialized facilities like the UI Food Technology Center and the USDA Western Wheat Quality Lab, students gain practical experience that mirrors professional research and development environments.

Beyond the lab, the curriculum encourages creative problem-solving through participation in competitive groups such as the Food Product Development Team and the Dairy Products Evaluation Team. Whether you are interested in creating novel food formulations or ensuring the integrity of global supply chains, this programme provides the technical foundation and industry exposure necessary to excel in a high-demand field.
