    About the Program

This programme helps people build skills in video game design without needing a full degree. It is for those with experience in creative fields or technology, and for anyone exploring a career in the growing video game industry. No prior game development experience is required. The programme gives practical knowledge in key areas of game creation, including design and sound.

Five microcredentials are available: game development foundations, level design, character animation, gameplay programming, and sound design. Each takes seven to ten hours to complete. All are delivered online and asynchronously. Learning happens through self-paced modules. Assessments must be completed to earn a digital badge. These badges prove skills to employers and can be shared on resumes and social media.

You can start at any time and work at your own pace. There are no fixed class times or deadlines. Finishing all five microcredentials shows you have proficiency in video game design. This path prepares you for entry-level roles in Alberta's growing game industry, where there are 68 studios and 821 active companies across Canada.
