Izmir Katip Çelebi University

Bachelor in Geomatics Engineering

İzmir, Turkey Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Geomatics Engineering, sometimes known as surveying engineering, is concerned with measuring, mapping, and modeling the surface of the earth and the built environment. Students study surveying methods, geodesy, cartography, geographic information systems, remote sensing, and photogrammetry, learning to collect and process spatial data used in construction, land management, and infrastructure planning. Coursework combines fieldwork, in which students use surveying instruments and satellite positioning systems to collect measurements, with laboratory and computer-based work processing that data into maps and geographic information system datasets. Mathematics and physics support the more technical coursework, particularly in geodesy and the analysis of positioning and measurement data. As students progress, the curriculum often introduces more specialized applications, such as urban and land information systems, cadastral surveying, or the use of geographic information systems in environmental and infrastructure planning. Graduates of geomatics engineering programs work as surveyors, cartographers, geographic information systems analysts, and consultants supporting construction, urban planning, and land administration projects, for government agencies, engineering firms, and utility companies. This program is delivered in English at Izmir Katip Çelebi University, located in İzmir, Turkey, and runs for 4 years. Students benefit from surveying and mapping laboratory facilities at the university, located in İzmir, a city undergoing continued urban and infrastructure development.
