Alman Dili ve Edebiyatı

German Language and Literature examines the German language alongside its literary tradition, covering works from different historical periods and genres. Typical coursework includes German grammar and composition, literary analysis, linguistics, and courses on German-language authors and literary movements, often complemented by studies of German history and culture that provide broader context for the literature. As students advance, they develop strong reading, writing, and analytical skills in German, along with the ability to interpret literary texts within their historical and cultural settings. Graduates commonly pursue careers in teaching, translation, publishing, cultural and diplomatic work, or tourism, and the degree also provides a foundation for graduate study in German studies, linguistics, or comparative literature. This four-year bachelor's program is offered by Istanbul University in Istanbul, Turkey, and instruction is delivered in German, immersing students directly in the language they are studying and supporting the development of advanced language proficiency alongside literary analysis skills. Istanbul University is one of Turkey's oldest institutions of higher education, and its language and literature programs draw on a long tradition of humanities scholarship. Studying German language and literature in Istanbul offers students a distinctive vantage point from which to consider German literary and cultural history, informed by Turkey's own long-standing cultural and academic exchanges with German-speaking countries. Over the four years of the program, students progress from foundational language training to advanced literary and linguistic study, developing the combination of language fluency and analytical skill needed for careers or further study connected to the German language and its literary tradition.
