Codio is a cloud-based learning platform designed for computer science education, offering browser-accessible coding environments and tools that support interactive, project-driven learning. Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Cambridge, the platform is used by universities, schools and bootcamps to deliver hands-on programming experiences without local setup. It supports multiple languages and provides auto-graded assignments to help students receive immediate feedback on coding tasks.

Instructors can design custom curricula, deploy scalable workspaces and track student progress through integrated assessment features. Codio’s formative assessments and real-time feedback help learners iterate quickly on projects, while integrations with major learning management systems simplify course administration. The platform suits both introductory programming classes and advanced software engineering courses, enabling educators to focus on pedagogy rather than environment configuration.

For international learners and institutions, Codio reduces barriers to accessing consistent development environments and enables remote collaboration on coding projects. Students benefit from instant access to tools and scaffolded tasks that build confidence and practical competence. If you value a structured, hands-on approach to learning programming with clear assessment and instructor oversight, Codio offers a scalable solution that supports effective teaching and measurable student progress.
